Define/ what is corporate communication
Corporate communication is the act of businesses giving over information about their company. This can be done through talking in person, talking on the ph one, billboards, websites, product brochures, television advertisements, The function has close ties to, or includes, investor relations, employee communication, government relations, corporate advertising, corporate philanthropy, business policy, CSR, public relations and media relations.  
There are two types of corporate communications 1. Internal 2. External ;

Internal - where employees exchange information to each other. It includes all aspects of company personnel exchanging information. Internal corporate communication includes managers handing over information to employees, employees communicating to each other on as equals, communication between different divisions within the same company, and other such tasks.
External - is how businesses and corporations send their message outward. It is how companies define themselves to the outside world and how they give over this message. Included in external corporate communications is creating websites, attending tradeshows, distributing product brochures, calling customers on the phone, and more.


Details of corporate communication

  • For administrating a business efficiently, good communication must be established between the management and staff as well as with the suppliers, investors and customers.
  • Communication plays a major role in the conception, implementation, monitoring and reporting on all corporate or business activities. It is through communication that the stakeholders (i.e person, group or organization that has direct or indirect stake in an organization) can understand a company's purpose, goals and values.
  • Until a few years ago, companies or organizations communicated with their employees through internal bulletins and with their customers through press releases. But with global competition of businesses on the rise, the importance of communication has increased manifold, as it has become the key factor that determine the success of a company.
  • Major companies or organizations consider communication as an effective tool to expand their business and they have their own communication team with efficient communicators. Here comes the importance of corporate communication.  
  • Corporate communication is the communication process that is mainly used for corporate or business purposes which takes place within and beyond the organization. The term is widely used to describe a variety of management functions related to an organization's internal and external communications. Internal corporate communication refers to the communication within an organization that may include group discussions, motivational activities, business meetings, conferences, presentations etc.
  • The suitable work atmosphere between the employees and the productivity of an organization can be increased by the internal corporate communication. External corporate communication is the communication of the business or corporate organization with its investors, customers and other corporate entities by means of marketing and advertising. It is by the external corporate communication that a company portrays its brand identity to the entire corporate world. Various kinds of advertisements, promotional events, and business proposals can be included in the external corporate communication. 
  • Corporate communication may often be confused with public relation. Though both fields involves the monitoring and evaluating of public attitudes between an organization and public, corporate communication is far more an intense and strategic method of communication than public relations. Depending on the situation, corporate communication has to communicate strategically and has to come out with different solutions for different scenarios.
  • As a whole, corporate communication is a broad field which covers several other fields like advertising, public relations, investor relations, brand management, internal communication, event promotion, marketing, crisis control etc. 

Why we need corporate communication - It encodes and promotes the; strong corporate culture, coherent corporate identity, reasonable corporate philosophy, genuine sense of corporate citizenship, an appropriate and professional relationship with the press, including quick, responsible ways of communicating in a crisis, understanding of communication tools and technologies, sophisticated approaches to global communications
How an organization communicates with its employees, its extended audiences, the press and its customers brings its values to life. Corporate communications is all about managing perceptions and ensuring:  Effective and timely dissemination of information, Positive corporate image, Smooth and affirmative relationship with all stakeholders


Opportunities/ scope for corporate communications:

  • The field of corporative communication has undergone radical developments over the years and has become an exciting and full-fledged career option. Those with a fair communication skill can excel in this lucrative business field. Job openings in corporate communication have also increased as the companies are becoming more serious about its reputation and image. It is the corporate communicator or corporate communication managers who are responsible for creating and maintaining the brand and looking after the organization's reputation. Almost all the communicative functions of a company with various national and international organizations are carried out by these people.
